                                                                Emerald Ash Borer (EAB)

                                                                The EAB is an insect that kills ash trees.  EAB is present in
                                                                Minnesota, and is as close to us as Eden Prairie.  Due to
                                                                good sanitation procedures and the natural, slow progres-
                                                                sion of EAB, Hutchinson is in a good position to manage
                            Organic's                           proactively.

                              Only!!!                           Currently about 17% of publicly owned trees are susceptible
                                                                to EAB.  In recognition of this, the City has set aside some
                                                                funds for ash tree removal and replacement.  When ash
                                                                trees are proactively removed and replaced, larger, 2” trees
                                                                (usually 10-15’ tall) are planted in their place  to fill in the
                                                                gaps.

                                                                If an ash tree on the boulevard near your home is declining
                                                                in health, we invite you to contact us to let us know about it.
                                                                We will be put these trees on a list and will likely be able to
                                                                remove and replace between 25-50 trees per year.  Before
