LIFEGUARD TRAINING COURSE
The American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course is a
top notch training class for those desiring to be lifeguards.
Participants must be 15 years old before completion of
this course.
Participants must have completed the following swimming
pre-requisites:
1) 500 yard continuous swim including 100 yard each of
crawl, sidestroke, and backstroke;
2) Submerge to 7 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object;
3) Tread water for 2 minutes, legs only.
Fee includes required manuals & mask

lifeguarding:
The lifeguarding positions are seasonal positions.
To apply, you will need to complete and submit a
City Seasonal Employment Application form that is
available on the City website at
www.ci.hutchinson.mn.us. Click on the “I WANT TO”
tab and select “Apply for a Job”. Submit your com-
plete application to the City via e-mail at
[email protected] or in person at City
Center – 111 Hassan St SE. Paper applications
are available at City Center and the Rec Center.

HIGH TIDES DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM
Monday/Wednesday/Friday
Session 1: January 4, 6, 9, 11, 18, 20, 23, 25, 27, 30
Session 2: February 1, 3, 6, 8, 10, 13, 15, 22, 24, 27
Session 3: April 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 17, 19, 21, 24, 26
Session 4: May 1, 3, 5, 8, 10, 17, 19, 22, 24, 26
Fee: $60 each level & Session
BRONZE:
Swimmers should have completed Red Cross Level 3
and be comfortable to swim the width of the pool. Focus
of this group is to teach basic stroke technique in free-
style and backstroke and introduce elements of the
breaststroke. Instructors will work with swimmers to as-
sist them as they learn correct stroke skills and rhythmic
breathing techniques. Swimmers will advance through
Bronze when they demonstrate basic freestyle, back-
stroke leg and arm movements and proper rhythmic
breathing techniques. Starts and turns may be introduced
at this level, as well.

SILVER:
Swimmers should demonstrate mastery of the skills from
Bronze program to enter the Silver program. This in-
cludes development of proper stroke technique, starts
and turns. Swimmers will continue to improve their stroke
skills in freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke with the
goal of competitive swimming. Butterfly stroke will be
introduced. Some endurance and set swimming will be
done in this program, but the focus will still be on teach-
ing skills and techniques necessary to have a successful
competitive swim.
